# Scheduled task (ChatGPT)

> Work you describe once that ChatGPT runs on its own: once, on a schedule, while watching for a change, or when an email, Slack message, or pull request arrives.

**Category:** ChatGPT

**A scheduled task turns a prompt into a routine.** It can be **one-time**, **recurring**, **monitoring** (it checks for a change and stops when a condition is met), or **event-triggered** by a new Gmail message, a Slack channel message, or GitHub pull request activity. Event-triggered tasks run in [Work](/glossary#chatgpt-work) and need Plus or higher.

You manage them on the **Scheduled** page. Business allows up to 10 active tasks. Tasks in the cloud run whether your laptop is on or not; tasks that need local files need the computer awake. A task made inside a project can't use that project's uploaded files.

## At work

Run your Monday-brief prompt by hand first. When the answer is worth reading, say "schedule this every Monday at 7:30" and check the first two runs.

## Often confused with

A reminder. A reminder tells you to do the work; a scheduled task does the work and hands you the result.
