# Microsoft 365 Copilot

> The paid Microsoft 365 add-on that puts Copilot inside Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams and grounds its answers in your own mail, files and meetings.

**Category:** Copilot

**Microsoft 365 Copilot is the paid add-on on top of free Copilot Chat.** Your organisation licenses it through its Microsoft 365 tenant, at roughly $30 per user per month on annual enterprise pricing. It puts a Copilot pane inside Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams, so Copilot works on the document or inbox in front of you rather than only answering questions about it.

It also adds [Work IQ](/glossary#work-iq) grounding in your mail, files and meetings, and unlocks pre-built agents such as Researcher, Analyst and Facilitator. Unlike a Claude plan, you **cannot upgrade it yourself**: IT or procurement decides who gets it, often department by department. If you need it, name the exact capability you are missing when you ask.

## At work

A project lead opens Copilot in Outlook and asks for a briefing before tomorrow's client meeting. Copilot pulls in the related email thread and the shared proposal, which Copilot Chat alone could not see.

## Often confused with

[Copilot Studio](/glossary#copilot-studio). Studio is for building custom agents and automations, priced separately on usage and usually run by IT. Microsoft 365 Copilot is the per-user licence for working with Copilot in your everyday apps.
